The SouthWest Society of Service Coordinators is a Non-Profit 501c3 Educational Organization dedicated to increasing the knowledge of Professionals and other individuals who either work in the field of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) or who are interested in people who have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. SWSSC has hosted many conferences and seminars throughout Texas as a vehicle for continuing education and professional networking.
The SWSSC was originally organized as the Texas Society of Qualified Mental Retardation Professionals (QMRPs) and targeted QMRPs working in Intermediate Facilities for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR) With the expansion of Texas Waiver programs such as Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) the society recognized the need to include HCS Case Managers and other service coordinators working in the field of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. In 1995, The Texas Society of QMRPs became the SouthWest Society of Service Coordinators. Currently our membership is open to QMRPs, QMRP Assistants, HCS Case Managers, Nurses, Direct Support Professionals, Family Members and any individual who has an interest increasing their knowledge of people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
